Mattilon Smith Vanderhorst has been serving on SJB's Board of Directors since 2004. She worked as an Employment Counselor for Santa Clara County's Social Services Department, until her retirement in 2000. For a period of eight years, she has also had the privilege of being a Foster Parent for teenage children. Mattilon has worked with the Bill Wilson Center, even helping to house youth that were in the program. One of her proudest accomplishments is having written funding proposals for a community group known as the San Jose Apartments. As a staff person on the City of San Jose's Health & Social Task Force, Mattilon was part of a team that helped to address unmet needs in the community. She is presently a member of the Red Hats Society, Garden City Women’s Club, NAACP, and AACSA; she is also a Licensed Practitioner Emeritus for the Center for Spiritual Living.
